COALITION MANAGER

 

Background​: The coalition that eventually became Colorado Homes For All came together at the end of Spring 2016 for the first time to plan an action for the National Renter’s Day of Action, which took place on September 22nd, 2016. Our members are from all over the Denver Metro Area. As we continue to develop our coalition, we are looking to include groups from all over the state to make it clear that this is not just an urban issue. We define “renters” as not only people who are tenants in apartments and homes but it includes mobile home owners who rent land, and ‘bank tenants’ or people who are still paying off their mortgage and therefore are at risk of foreclosure and displacement. Collectively our table decided that Rent Control was the number one priority and our action in September would be to declare a Housing State of Emergency in Colorado and roll out our demand for rent control.

Since then we have continued to grow and develop our structure to take on bold policies and strategies that will directly address the housing crisis. We work with over a dozen organizations in Colorado and are closely connected to the national housing justice movement, Homes For All, which was started by Right to the City Alliance.

 

Based in the Denver Metro Area or has the ability to travel to Denver Area up to 4 times a month

Position Description

Colorado Homes For All, a base-building housing justice coalition, is hiring a coalition manager to provide structure for the coalition. This individual would help develop the coalition by fostering existing and new relationships with coalition partners to engage them further in housing movement building work. This individual will also serve as a local and national representative of the national Homes For All movement. United for a New Economy (UNE) and 9to5 Colorado are the two anchor organizations that will work hand in hand with the coalition coordinator. Job Responsibilities:
Local

  • Coalition Organizing and Management
    • Building and maintaining effective relationships with: Existing campaign partners, new campaign partners, allies, community members, elected officials, stakeholders, and leaders in the Housing Justice Space
    • Developing the capacity of table partners to participate effectively in the campaign
    • Monitor and/or participate in governmental and public meetings and processes related to COHFA’s housing justice campaigns
    • Represent COHFA in other coalition spaces
    • Facilitate and support facilitation for meetings and trainings
    • Work with Executive Committee to draft agendas for COHFA meetings
    • Follow up with with individuals identified through the Beyond Recovery National Campaign to connect them with respective coalition partners
    • Coordinate logistics for virtual and in-person COHFA events (sign-in sheets, childcare, interpretation, food, meeting space, materials, zoom, etc.)

 

  • Communications and Data
    • Oversee communication plan
    • Update COHFA social media with relevant news and information about upcoming COHFA events (facebook, twitter)
    • Data maintenance
    • Draft monthly newsletters/emails to our COHFA listserv in English and Spanish
    • Draft action alerts and updates

 

  • Fundraising and Administration
    • Support funder prospecting and grant reporting
    • Develop basic administrative systems and structures for COHFA
    • Meet regularly with Executive Committee to review progress on deliverables
    • Participate in grant writing and reporting
    • Maintain organized digital and physical campaign records

 

National

  • Represent COHFA in national Homes For All general assemblies, committees and translocal committees
  • Attend bi-weekly virtual Homes For All membership meetings
  • Coordinate with national HFA around general assemblies both at local and national level

Qualifications: 

  • Believes in coalition’s guiding principles (put link here)
  • Enthusiastic about social justice
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience working with low income communities and communities of color
  • Available to work weekday evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Demonstrated experience and success in collaborative project management or nonprofit administration and organizing
  • Ability to coordinate communication among coalition members effectively
  • A passion for creating organizational systems and empowering collaborative teams
  • Ability to proactively anticipate operational issues and create solutions
  • Ability to evaluate and implement online collaboration tools
  • Advance knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with a variety of partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to create goals, develop strategy and plan backwards
  • An understanding of Colorado politics and community organizing
  • Proficiency in using Zoom, facebook live streaming, twitter, instagram, google drive, powerpoint
  • Must be flexible with lack of structure
  • Self-motivated and able to work in an environment where day to day activities differ drastically
  • Must be able to operate independently in addition to working with a team in a campaign setting with an ability to respond to a rapidly changing political environment and field program

This is a temporary full-time contract position that will begin in October, 2020 and lasts until November, 2021. Contract can be extended if additional funding becomes available.

Pay Rate & Benefits:

  • Annual Salary range is $43,000 – $50,000 depending on experience
