Colorado Homes for All - Reclaim, Remain, Rebuild Our Cities

United for A New Economy, along with our partners at 9 to 5 Colorado, are anchoring a bold and innovative grassroots housing coalition called Colorado Homes for All (COHFA).
COHFA is a coalition of individuals and organizations who have come together from every corner of Colorado to establish a different vision and to build a grassroots housing movement for equity and justice for all people. We are centered around a few core values and have structured this coalition to uplift the leadership and voices of those who are directly impacted by the housing crisis.
We believe that housing is a human right and not a commodity.
We believe that land and housing should be community owned.

Some of the other  partners at the table include Denver Artists For Rent Control, Denver Meadows Vecinos Unidos, DREAMers Mothers In Action (DMIA), Pioneer Village Vecinos Unidos, Unidxs Por La Justicia Berkeley Village, Asian Pacific Development Center, Colorado Cross Disabilities Coalition, and members of the UNE Westminster & South Adams organizing committee.

We came together at the end of Spring 2016 for the first time to plan an action for the National Renter’s Day of Action, which took place on September 22nd, 2016. Over 150 residents and staff of organizations showed up at the Denver and County building and marched to the capitol where resident leaders shared their stories of displacement, eviction, and homelessness. We declared a housing state of emergency and put forward our collective demand for rent control.  That event laid the groundwork for what is now Colorado Homes for All.

Our aim is to build a movement that will put the power back in the hands of renters. We will take measured and bold action to create more renters protections in the state of Colorado and to take on rent control. We believe that all people should have access to  safe, and affordable housing.  The state ban on rent control and limitation on renter’s protections are huge obstacles that stand in the way of this vision.

This year COHFA is leading three bills at the state legislature 1.) a Warranty of Habitability bill 2.) a bill that will  limit application fees, and 3.) a bill that will support the rights of mobile home owners.
